Melinda's Little Library
In the early hours of the morning of October 24, 2016, my father called to tell me my mother had died. He had gotten up to make coffee and found her on the floor of the bathroom. She had died suddenly and alone of a massive heart attack.
My world and my heart were shattered almost beyond repair.
Momma was my best friend and my safe place. Growing through this stage of my life without Momma has been horrible and challenging in ways that I still shudder to think about. And yet, it has also been a time when I have been more focused than ever on how I can find peace, balance, and joy. I have worked harder than ever to become the person she would be proud of. Every book that I place, every food pantry item I collect, every sharing box I fix is a tribute to my love for her as a mother, a prolific reader and as a veteran special education teacher. I am beyond grateful to have been her daughter. I hope I make her proud every day.
In July 2021, Melinda’s Little Library was dedicated at our first location in Roswell, GA. Since that time the library has moved to its current location in Sandy Springs, GA where it was re-opened in December 2021. Our mission is to build community, encourage literacy and encourage representation in the books that we share in little library boxes across Atlanta, GA and the country.
